Pembina Valley Online—Don Martens, who has extensive experience with residential homebuilding, recently saw a post asking why America should buy lumber from Canada.
“The answer is well, because Canada is where the trees are,” he says. “Canada naturally has so, so, so many acres of trees. Obviously, we have more trees than we can possibly consume ourselves, so it would only be natural that we would want to export a rich resource like that.”
“Countries like the United States are just physically smaller and have 10 times the population, so they just don’t have the tree growth. In fact, a lot of their tree growth is probably in national parks and places like that, so it only makes sense that our country supports countries like the United States with supply.”
